I actually attack the concept of happiness.
The idea that - I don’t mind people being happy - but the idea that everything we do
is part of the pursuit of happiness seems to me a really dangerous idea
and has led to a contemporary disease in Western society,
which is fear of sadness. It’s a really odd thing that we’re now seeing people saying
“write down 3 things that made you happy today before you go to sleep”,
and “cheer up” and “happiness is our birthright” and so on.
We’re kind of teaching our kids that happiness is the default position - it’s rubbish.
Wholeness is what we ought to be striving for and part of that is sadness,
disappointment, frustration, failure; all of those things which make us who we are.
Happiness and victory and fulfillment are nice little things that also happen to us,
but they don’t teach us much.
Everyone says we grow through pain and then as soon as they experience pain
they say “Quick! Move on! Cheer up!”
I’d like just for a year to have a moratorium on the word “happiness”
and to replace it with the word “wholeness”.
Ask yourself “is this contributing to my wholeness?”
and if you’re having a bad day, it is.

Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world.
Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak.
Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor,
and your picture begins to lighten up.

as artists, we have to think, feel and act outside the 'academic box'.
It is not as important to draw academically correct
but to convey your message and your feelings to others.
As Mark Rothko stated 'It is a widely accepted notion among painters that it does not matter what one paints as long as it is well painted.
This is the essence of academicism... '
fragment from personal work |
Your body needs to be held and to hold, to be touched and to touch.
None of these needs is to be despised, denied, or repressed.
But you have to keep searching for your body’s deeper need, the need for genuine love. Every time you are able to go beyond the body’s superficial desires for love,
you are bringing your body home and moving toward integration and unity.

Such a moment has a peculiar character.
It is brief and temporal indeed, like every moment;
it is transient as all moments are; it is past, like every moment in the next moment.
And yet it is decisive, and filled with the eternal.
Such a moment ought to have a distinctive name;
let us call it the Fullness of Time.

The power of freedom...
I always believed that every person should be free to manifest itself as it fits him best,
and I think that it is wrong to compel people by any mental or physical power.
If coercing somebody by physical force to do things for you translates into slavery,
compelling them by mental means reaches the same effect.
If taking things from other people by force is robbery,
then taking things by mental force is robbery also.
Nobody has the right to use their will power upon another person.
This is the essence of Freedom and Love.
I think we’re all a little like Alice.
Every time I leave the comfort of my home I feel like I’m tumbling down a rabbit hole.
Things I don’t understand pass me by and I can’t stop it.
I can’t just press pause like when I’m watching the movie, can I?
We’re all falling down rabbit holes and being thrown into some kooky wonderland
that makes absolutely no sense. We meet crazy people, we do mad things.
At the end of it all, we’re just trying to work out who we are and why we’re here.
Then before you know it, you’ve woken up and you’re in a different world.
But it’s still as crazy, perhaps even more than the one you were in before.
We’re all just confused, and try and help each other
work out what it all means.

I heard what you said. I’m not the silly romantic you think.
I don’t want the heavens or the shooting stars. I don’t want gemstones or gold.
I have those things already.
I want…a steady hand. A kind soul.
I want to fall asleep, and wake, knowing my heart is safe.
I want to love, and be loved.
